Design as an Accompaniment to Performance Art: Incorporating Imagery to Amplify Emotional Impact is an investigation of how graphic design can be used to increase the emotional impact of a performance art piece, such as spoken word or music. The research indicates that memory plays a significant role in informing the emotion felt. The felt emotion then allows the viewer to form a perspective on the artistic piece as a whole. However, it is important to note that an individual’s memory cannot be controlled by the artist. Therefore, it is important for the artist to place a direct focus on the characteristics of design and how they influence the emotional impact of the performance art piece. The design characteristics investigated include type, color, texture, shape, form, space, line, symbolism, iconography, anticipated motion, and layout.

"Designers must begin to go beyond

form, function and aesthetics to integrate aspects of emotional awareness.

"

The lines between the creative fields are increasingly blurred. Visual artists use interactive and moving images, performers use digital media in site-specific works, and collaborative teams create sophisticated productions that captivate our senses."

About Me

Hey, I'm Bri.

I utilize design to tell my story. Rather than a portfolio, I have

developed a visual autobiography built from memories, thoughts, and

emotions. I allow these memories and emotions to guide and inspire the

visual solutions for each project I am tasked with completing. My thesis

project, specifically, was heavily influenced by recent losses in my family.
